Article By PA Equestrian   2001

Animals in need of a home would do well to head to Rainbow Ridge Farm Equestrian Center, where owner Lorie Miller and her ever-patient husband have collected an assortment of beasts from geese to goats  in addition to the farm's many horses.  Miller even earned her 15 minutes of fame a few years ago by performing CPR and reviving a chicken that had fallen into a pond.  Miller adopted Daisy and Duchess, a pony, from a rescue.  Daisy arrived at the farm after being starved, abused and sold for slaughter and is now happily giving lessons.
The Miller's purchased the 10 ½ acre farm, which had fallen into disrepair, in September, 2000 and have totally rehabilitated the property.  Rainbow Ridge offers boarding and lessons in dressage, eventing, hunter/jumper, western pleasure and natural horsemanship.  The 20-stall barn includes two tack rooms, two grooming stalls, a round pen, a fire alarm system, ceiling fans and a wash stall with hot and cold water.  The 150-foot by 75-foot indoor arena has a heated viewing lounge with drinks and snacks and there is a 200-foot by 100-foot outdoor arena.  A jump course and barrels are available.  All breeds of horses and all disciplines are welcome.  Full care includes daily turnout, feeding (with a choice of four feeds), and cleaning.  Daily worming maintenance is included at no extra charge.
The farm recently added a tack shop and will be holding schooling shows this summer.  Pony parties and a Summer day camp are also available.
Rainbow Ridge has two instructors.  Trainer/manager Virginia Ahlers is a certified Kenny Harlow instructor who specializes in dressage and jumping.  She helps to start young horses and restart older problem horses.  Ahlers, the daughter of a veterinarian, has a B.S. in Animal Sciences from Cornell University and trained with Kenny Harlow, Melissa Simms, Bonnie Bonello. Lynn Laskowski, Ray Hunt, Buck Brannaman, and Dave Kluge.  She events her horses, Jerry and Connie.  Also teaching at Rainbow Ridge is Wendy Guendelsberger, who  has been working with horses for many years.   Wendy, who loves meeting new people and teaching, is currently an Equine Science major at Delaware Valley College, and is a CHA certified riding instructor.
Half hour and hour-long riding lessons are available for all levels, beginner to advanced.  "Our farm has a clean, safe environment and a fun, friendly atmosphere where care of the horses always comes first," Miller said.  "The atmosphere is very low pressure and welcoming.  We strive to make everyone feel comfortable.  We love kids and enjoy working with them."
For the Open House, Rainbow Ridge Farm will offer pony rides for $2 and 15 minute introductory riding lessons for $10.  Both are available on a first come, first served basis.  The petting zoo will be open daily.  Games, refreshments, a moon bounce, face painting and balloon animals will be offered both days.  Demonstrations will be held and an animal rescue will be at the farm to introduce visitors to its programs.  Visitors are asked to bring a donation of pet food, a toy, treat or blanket for the animals.  Coffee and donuts will be served Saturday from 10 am to noon.
